Key actions and adaptations
The Rural Community of Cocagne adopted the Climate Change Adaptation Plan at its regular meeting on October 13, 2020.
The Rural Community of Grande-Digue has submitted its 2019 Climate Change Adaptation Plan to the Minister of Local Government.
A number of priority actions relate to the protection of the environment and the catchment area.
Earth Day and community shoreline clean-up
Beausoleil collaborates with the Sustainable Development Group of the Pays de Cocagne on an annual community clean-up activity, which takes place around Earth Day.
A volunteer's comments:
Wow, we filled 4 large containers with the waste we cleaned up, and there were a lot of recycled cans. We found a wallet, a sledge, a tyre and lots of building and fishing materials. CONGRATULATIONS to all the participants who are helping to preserve our environment and remove this waste from nature!
Green Development Project
Ecological enhancement mainly involves restoring natural habitats by introducing native plants that are suitable for the area. For example, restoring riparian zones helps to improve aquatic habitats by reducing the rate of nutrients and sedimentation reaching the water, and by reducing the occurrence of eutrophication. The health of natural areas contributes to the well-being of the people and wildlife that use them. Ecological development projects reflect the sustainable development objectives of achieving a balance between recreational use and healthy nature.
An ecological development project of this kind is the Living Coasts approach. The GDDPC has helped to present practical workshops on restoring vegetation and stabilising coastlines. By taking part in the workshop, landowners and watershed groups will be able to learn more about this method, which represents an ecological alternative to fixed structures or riprap on their land.
