Community groups on sustainability

The GDDPC is a not-for-profit organisation that works primarily in the Cocagne river and bay watershed. Managed by a volunteer steering committee, the GDDPC has been working with the local communities since 2000.
The GDDPC's mission is to promote the sustainable, holistic development of the region, providing opportunities for citizens to take charge of managing their environment.
The GDDPC's vision is for the Pays de Cocagne to be a viable and sustainable community where people enjoy a good quality of life:
- You can grow and develop peacefully and safely;
- You can be autonomous and have the ability to choose;
- The environment is in balance;
- The resources are healthy and accessible;
- The public is informed, responsible and involved.
The GDDPC oversees the development of the community garden and works with various committees to promote food sovereignty. A variety of projects, such as Couleurs du Pays and natural burials, enable citizens to use the knowledge of the past and present to prepare for the future.
Another exemplary project directly affects wildlife habitats, such as bank swallows, monarch butterflies and birds at risk.

The Shediac Bay Watershed Association (SBWA) is dedicated to the protection of the fresh water that flows into the Scoudouc and Shediac Rivers and then into Shediac Bay.
The Shediac Bay Watershed Association was formed in 1999 in response to growing concerns from local community residents about the health of Shediac Bay. The SBWA addresses issues related to water quality and habitat integrity.
The SBWA has been involved in numerous projects and initiatives over the years, including water quality monitoring and restoration projects, as well as awareness-raising and education programmes on good environmental practice.
